Laser Welding Machine Wire Feeder Problem: Wire Jam

Symptom:
Wire jam behind the feed rolls

Cause Analysis:
Due to high resistance behind this structure, the wire cannot be fed and is stuck in the feed rolls. This resistance issue should be addressed.

Solution:

① Improve the wire feed structure

Because longer wire liners increase resistance, use shorter liners if possible. For example, when welding with 0.8mm wire and 3M liners, try to straighten the liners and avoid twisting them. Also, leave some of the liners open at this point of wire jam.

② Improve the wire material

For stainless steel and iron wire, little optimization is required. However, for aluminum wire, we recommend using at least 5 series aluminum alloy wire, which is harder, and using U-shaped feed rolls and graphite tubes.

③ If the wire jam persists despite the above improvements, replace the liners.
